Miami, FL. - Laparkan Shipping has extended its condolences to the Government and People of Haiti on the loss of life and devastation caused by Tuesday’s tragic earthquake and has offered access to its warehouse space for use as a staging area for emergency supplies being airlifted to Haiti. Laparkan is working with the Americas Relief Team (ART) which comprises a number of private sector companies and relief agencies in facilitating logistical support to relief efforts.

Laparkan welcomes reduction in duties on barrels in Jamaica |

Miami, FL. - Laparkan Shipping welcomes the decision of the Government of Jamaica to introduce a flat rate of duty on barrels containing personal effects entering the Country. The Jamaica Customs Service recently announced that it has introduced a flat rate of duty of 5,000 Jamaican dollars for barrels containing personal effects. This rate of duty does not apply to barrels with commercial quantities of merchandise.

Laparkan Chairman calls for action to deal with illegal consolidators |

Miami, FL. - There is need for the authorities in the United States to more stringently enforce the regulations which would curtail the operations of illegal consolidators in the shipping industry who, among other things, ship hazardous materials with no regard for the regulations. This call for coordinated action among agencies such as the Federal Maritime Commission, the Department of Transportation, the Transportation Security Administration and the US Customs was made Tuesday by Mr. Glen Khan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Laparkan Group of Companies during a panel discussion on transportation at the just concluded 33rd annual Miami Conference on the Caribbean.

Laparkan signs agreement with European Cargo Services |

As the leading international air and sea cargo operators serving the Caribbean seek to expand their market share, Laparkan Airways has signed an agreement with European Cargo Services Globe Air Cargo under which that company will serve as general sales agents for Laparkan Airways in the North Eastern United States, an area which includes New York and New Jersey. ECS will market the freight capacity of Laparkan Airways current twice weekly wide bodied B767-200 freighter service to the Caribbean.
